Hello! You may be wondering what Language Access Week is.
We've got you! We are World Speaks Omaha, a Nebraska-based organization the believes that language access is a basic right. Learn more about us by visiting our website in the "support language access" button.
Okay now that intro's are out of the way, let's get started! Officially "Language access refers to the ability of individuals who speak languages other than the dominant or official language of a particular region or organization to access services, information, and resources in their preferred language." This just means the resources that individuals need most are provided in the language they completely understand.
June 10th-14th, 2024, for the first time, we are celebrating organizations who practice language access in the Omaha Metro community. We are also hosting an event so that folks who speak English as their first language know what its like to need interpretation, a language access tool. You can learn more about that event by clicking the "Sign Up to Make Momos!" button.
We'd like to also thank our Sponsors Cox, Valmont Industries, the Omaha Community Foundation, and Kathmandu Station. Thank you Cox and Valmont Industries for providing $2,000 in matching funds!
We appreciate your support whether it is helping us reach our goal of raising a matching $2,000, sharing our messages on social media the entire week, and/or joining us at our event to make momos!
